Kelly - Cargo Terminal Facility Coordinator

Kelly is an organiser and problem solver. Taking on the logistics role of cargo terminal facility coordinator, after completing university, has given Kelly the professional challenges she was looking for.

Kelly has worked at Australian Amalgamated Terminals (AAT) for four and half years. She began working at Glebe Island in Sydney before transferring to the Fisherman Islands facility in Brisbane.

Kelly completed a Bachelor of Economics and Social Science at the University of Sydney and commenced her working career at a human relations consultancy before joining AAT.

What drew me to working as a cargo terminal  facility coordinator?

“I’m the organising type. I especially enjoy problem solving and the logistics side of shipping and transportation, particularly with the variety of goods we handle presents the types of challenges I enjoy.”

Career highlights

“The variety of cargo here has some great stories. We see a great many vintage cars, and the arrival of the Subaru Rally cars is always fun. A challenge I particularly relished was ensuring that the tunnel boring machines, to be used for the Inner City Bypass tunnel, made it in time for the ribbon cutting ceremony.

Each year superyachts arrive for boat shows. The boats destined for the Brisbane Boat show need to be lifted onto trucks, and that is a tricky operation. The boats going to Sanctuary Cove though are floated off a submersible vessel into the river and we always enjoy watching these sail towards the Gold Coast.

There are plenty of hands-on challenges too, for example, figuring out how to jump-start a dump truck which is blocking a ramp.”
