Tony - Transport Supervisor
After completing Year 12, Tony turned to truck driving as a way to travel and earn money. Now working as a transport supervisor, Tony manages a team dedicated to meeting the challenge of supply chain logistics.
Tony is originally from North Queensland, and while at school drove furniture transport trucks. After completing Year 12 Tony wanted to travel and see more of Australia, and truck driving seemed the perfect way to earn while travelling around the country.
After meeting his wife, Tony moved into the office-based side of supplying goods, where he learnt about logistics and sales. Tony now works as a transport supervisor at Chalmers where his team includes a fleet controller, a transport planner, a booking clerk and data entry workers.
What drew me to being a Transport Supervisor
“As a 17-year-old, truck driving was a very good way to earn money and to travel. However I’ve always enjoyed being an organiser and making sure that the impossible can happen. Being a transport supervisor means that I can do this every day.”
Career Highlights
Since leaving truck driving I have set up four different businesses from scratch. This has meant organising everything from equipping the depot and hiring new office staff, to attracting new customers. This is a role which gives me the opportunity to try out new ideas. I also enjoy working with people and managing a team. The best part is seeing people in my team progress and succeed.”
