The Hawkins Family Group’s foundations go back to 1921 with the commencement of Hawkins Transport.

The company’s reputation for safe, reliable service has seen their business prosper and expand into a range of markets, all with a link back to their transport origins. Today, the Hawkins Family Group is a diverse range of businesses including Hawkins Road Transport, Moreton Island Ferries, Hawkins Fuels and the Port Truck Stop/ Truck Wash.

Hawkins Road Transport

Hawkins Road Transport started providing customers with an alternative to the rail freight network, initially providing services from Brisbane to Ipswich.The business now operates depots in Brisbane, Mackay,
Townsville, Tully, Burdekin delta and specialize in the handling of fresh produce from the many NQ towns to
Brisbane as well as general freight requirements.

The Hawkins owned fleet includes 80 modern trucks, all with air bag suspension and electronic refrigeration units. Hawkins Transport also have a fuel and bulk liquid division operating out of North Queensland and are a Shell and Caltex accredited carrier. Management demonstrates the highest level of commitment to ensuring the health and safety of workers and all other persons associated with Hawkins activities with a goal of continuous improvement across all areas of the business.

Moreton Island Ferries

Moreton Island Ferries evolved from the Hawkins Family’s love of travelling to their holiday home at Kooringal on Moreton Island in 1971. Given the limited methods of access to the island and the Hawkins’s family history in the freight business, Hawkins family took on the challenge of offering freight and passenger services.

Moreton Island Ferries now operate Micat which runs from Port of Brisbane 365 days per year. She is a purpose built vessel which was built three years ago to revolutionise travel to Moreton Island. Micat carries 52 4WD vehicles and 400 passengers in style.

The Micat business also offers Catered Beach Events including activities such as sand boarding, Adventure Day Trips and 4WD Tours which can be enjoyed by families of all ages. By night, Micat offers river cruises, allowing enough space to cater for any event in style, with the added benefit of being surrounded by onstantly changing, breathtaking views of Brisbane.

Hawkins Fuels

In 2005 the opportunity to purchase the Truckstop at the Port of Brisbane bought another milestone to the family businesses. This retail outlet is the only one of its kind at the port and is growing each day.

The facility aims to provide a range of services for drivers, such as washing machines, shower facilities, internet access and a comfortable lounge area, as well as providing nutritious, delicious food for the drivers and workers within the area.

In August 2007 a Truckwash and a 4wd/Carwash facility named ‘Port Wash’ opened, once again adding to the suite of services offered by the business. This facility has been designed with the environment in mind, utilizing only fully recycled water.
