History
Sunstate Cement was initiated by Joint Venture partners, Adelaide Brighton Ltd and Boral Ltd in the early 1980’s, to provide increased capacity and competition to the cement market of South East Queensland.
Construction of the initial grinding mill, clinker store, workshop and office complex commenced in early 1984 and the plant was commissioned in June 1985.
In 1986 a modern bagging plant, palletiser and additional storage silos were constructed to service the market for bagged cement products.
A second mill was completed in 1990, to provide Sunstate with a capacity of one million tonnes per year.
The rate of growth of the South East Queensland region and the associated increase in demand for cement products has resulted in Sunstate implementing a further substantial upgrade of its production capability. Additional clinker storage and cement silos have been commissioned in 2008 and a third mill will come on-line in mid 2009.
